When The Frontrunner began operating in 1976 we were the only specialist running store operating in the South Island. Since 1976 The Frontrunner has understood the action and gait of the foot and the advances made in support, advice, and expertise throughout the years. The Frontrunner is acknowledged as one of the first sports retailers to recognise the importance of orthotics in sports performance.

Our Approach

When The Frontrunner began in 1976 we were the only specialist running store in the South Island. And at that time we supported runners by providing information that was not available from any other source. In 1980 we decided to combine technology with our expert knowledge to give us a further edge. This innovation lead to the introduction of our first treadmill analysis system to analyse the gait of a runners foot while in motion. Unfortunately this system was too advanced for our clients at the time, so we reverted back to our visual analysis of a persons running style. This was the case for many years until we re-introduced the system as our 'Treadfit Analysis System', which is now the leading gait analysis system of its kind. The 'Treadfit Analysis system' has been consistantly upgraded with the addition of the Silicon Coach Computerised System to enhance the fit and experience for our clients. Our ongoing success at The Frontrunner is driven by consistancy, knowledge, staff, and a passion for this industry. All new staff members undergo a comprehensive training period with full support of the franchise owner and other experts from within The Frontrunner brand, along with advice and input from our leading industry partners. The Treadfit Analysis System

The Frontrunner Treadfit analysis system lets you see exactly your exercise or running style by recording and replaying how your lower leg and foot function. Our experience has been gained through a close working relationship with medical professionals and provides us with the confidence to guarantee that we will select the correct type of shoe to meet your needs.

VIP Scheme

At The Frontrunner we reward our customers by offering them a "VIP Card". Once your VIP Card reaches $400 you will receive a $40 discount on your next purchase or a $40 voucher. The Frontrunner VIP Card is available to anyone, just ask for a card the next time you're instore. Your VIP Card will never expire and once you fill up your card the balance will be transferred to a new VIP Card. The Frontrunner 30 day Guarantee

In recognition of the fact that on occasions despite all the technology available in fitting the shoe, sometimes the fit may not be absolutely right. This is often due to the individual requirements being so unique. If we have chosen a shoe for you and it does not meet your requirements then bring it back to the Frontrunner store where you bought it (along with your proof of purchase) and we'll replace it with an alternative model of the same value. This guarantee covers fit, function, and suitability for the type of activity you are using it for. It does not cover or extend to colour or ignored advice.
