The Coast to Coast is one of the most gruelling events in the world.. Our friends from Inov8 and CamelBak have put together a list of must haves for 2016
Roclite 295 (Men’s and Woman’s Styles)
The shoe of choice for the 2015 champion Braden Currie the Roclite 295 is proven to perform through Goats Pass. With a redesigned look to take care of wear on the upper, the Roclite 295 is ideal for conditions in the varied Mountain pass. It's light, exceptionally grippy, free draining, and comfortable. It can handle mud, clay and forest trails as well as gravel roads. It's also reasonably wide in the forefoot, so can handle most NZ feet.
The 295 has been deservedly the best-selling inov-8 shoe in NZ and has had an update for 2015. The fantastic Roclite grip hasn't changed. It's the same sole pattern, and it is still sticky rubber, which means great rock hopping capability. The EVA layer is the same as the previous model at a 6mm drop with 13mm cushion in the heel.
Terraclaw 250 (Men’s and woman’s styles)
The Terraclaw 250 is a perfectly suited training and race shoe for the Coast to Coast as it performs on the widest range of trails imaginable.
Dynamic Fascia Band™ (DFB) delivers a kick of energy with each step, helping you to move faster and more efficiently. Dual-C™ outsole uses two types of sticky rubber - hard sticky (black) in areas of high wear, where durability is of extra importance, and soft sticky (blue) everywhere else to maximise grip. Multi directional lugs designed to provide traction when climbing, descending and contouring; the direction of the lugs has been dictated by the foot's natural movement during situations where grip is essential.
Built on a standard last that offers a close-fitting heel that locks the shoe in position, while a wider toe box allows your toes to splay when running naturally. Standard fit suits those with wider feet and athletes using the shoes for long sessions. A Double layered protective toe cap ensures minor toe bumps are no issue, while a 8mm drop and compressed EVA midsole for cushioning protects from stone bruising.
CamelBak Ultra™ 4
Our most versatile vest features expandable storage, 2 litters of hydration capacity, a sweat-proof storage compartment and a stretch mesh pocket for gels or tabs. The external-fill feature also lets your refill your reservoir without removing it from the pack. The stretch mesh compartment expands to hold an extra layer or two. Load up the chest pockets with two extra bottles. With two sternum straps and a hook-and-loop adjustable harness, this pack stays put now matter how rough the terrain.
CamelBak Ultra™ 10
Our most technical running pack, the Ultra™ 10 was designed to endure one of the toughest trail races on earth: the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc. We engineered this pack to carry every item on the UTMB gear list: a 2 litter reservoir, room for food and extra layers, a sweat-proof pocket for your Smartphone and two chest pockets for additional water bottles. If it works on Mont Blanc, it can handle just about anything. Refilling on the run? We’ve added colour-coded straps so you’ll instantly know how to access your water supply, and an external-fill design that lets you refill without unpacking the bag. On hot days, fill the reservoir with ice water—the mesh back panel lets it sit against your back to cool your core.
We’ve also included overflow storage, trekking pole attachments and plenty of lash points, just in case you want to bring something we didn’t think of. The custom-fit harness and dual sternum straps adjust for a close, comfortable fit, and the cargo compression lets you cinch everything down to minimize bulk.
